Located at an altitude of 1,000 metres, Rougemont boasts stunning architecture, with several magnificent chalets that epitomise the style of the region. These timber buildings, some more than 400 years old, display engravings, paintings, flowers and inscriptions. Rougemont has a rich cultural heritage.
Founded by Cluniac monks in 1080, the site features two important cultural monuments: an 11th century Roman church and a 16th century castle. The Videmanette cablecar offers a perfect starting point for wonderful summer hikes, and in winter provides direct access to the Gstaad ski area.
It’s thus no surprise that at the start of 2017 the village of Rougemont was recognised by ‘The most beautiful villages of Switzerland’ association.

Easy access all year round

Shops/stores

You can get everything for your daily needs from the little village shops or via direct selling. Various sports shops offer a wide selection of excellent equipment, while Gstaad is home to numerous high-end stores. The village also boasts many high quality restaurants that offer a range of local and international delicacies,
as well as several hotels such as the Hotel de Rougemont & SPA, the recently renovated Hotel Valrose and the Hotel de Commune.

Public transport


Rougemont is easily reachable by train, by car, by jet plane or by helicopter. The touristic railway line MOB serves the Pays-d’Enhaut. This line enables you to reach Montreux or Zweisimmen and soon Luzern. The motorway A12 (Vevey-Fribourg- Bern) is 45 minutes away via Bulle. The towns of Thoune and Aigle are just one hour away.

The neighbouring village, Saanen, has an aerodrome which welcomes jet planes and helicopters

Leisure time

In the Pays d'Enhaut and the Saanenland, numerous activities are available throughout the year :

At the fall of the first snowflakes, the ski patrol prepares the 220 km of ski slopes of Gstaad Mountain Rides. Enjoy superb conditions from December to May both day and night (some resorts offer night skiing and / or torchlight descents). Many cross-country ski trails for all levels and styles are scattered throughout the area. Outdoor ice rinks in Château-d'Oex and Gstaad will delight fans of sports on ice. You can admire the unique natural environment during walks on snowshoes and ski touring across the valley.

Once the snow melts, the area allows you to take beautiful walks with breathtaking views. A via ferrata with an altitude of 2000m & three levels of difficulty and climbing walls allows the more courageous to test their limits. With several take-off sites and favourable conditions, our region is ideal for paragliding. The Sarine flowing along the valley allows you to enjoy canyoning and rafting in the gorges, thrills guaranteed. Other facilities are also available such as golf, Olympic swimming pool, soccer field, tennis courts, horse riding, bowling, etc.

On a grey day discover art galleries, luxury stores, the Balloon museum, the Museum of Old Pays-d'Enhaut or the museum of minerals and fossils. About 40 minutes away by car, discover the castle and village of Gruyère, the chocolate factory in Broc and the thermal baths in Charmey.
